Sector Jobs Resilience Plan (SJRP) Agriculture value chain

Overview

The Sector Jobs Resilience Plan (SJRP) for the Agriculture Value Chain, developed by Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies, examines how climate change may affect employment and livelihoods in South Africa’s agricultural sector. The study forms part of national efforts to implement the Just Transition framework and protect vulnerable workers. It highlights that rising temperatures, droughts, and extreme weather events already threaten agricultural production and incomes, particularly for farmworkers, emerging farmers, and rural households. The plan assesses vulnerabilities across the agricultural value chain and proposes policy interventions to strengthen climate resilience, protect jobs, and support livelihood transitions in affected communities.
