Komati's Just Transition: Assessing progress, challenges, and lessons

Overview

This report from the Presidential Climate Commission details the progress, challenges, and lessons learned from the decommissioning, repowering, and repurposing of the Komati Power Station since November 2023. While activities under the World Bank-funded Eskom Just Energy Transition Project (EJETP) for decommissioning and repowering have seen limited progress due to procurement issues and infrastructure demolition uncertainty, broader socioeconomic initiatives are underway.
