Gillian Maree has 25 years’ experience in sustainability, evidence-based policy and strategic planning. Her experience lies at the intersection of research and implementation, focusing on the areas of water, biodiversity, environmental change and climate. Gillian is an experienced manager and technical specialist who has worked in government, academia and the private sectors connecting stakeholders working on large complex problems. She contributed to several key assessments and policy documents on environmental issues and has an established publication record.

Gillian is a Senior Programme Manager within the Environmental Unit at the NBI. She has worked in a senior advisory capacity at research organisations and within the private sector. Prior to joining the NBI Gillian worked as a senior researcher at the GCRO.

Gillian holds an MSc in Environmental Science (Biodiversity Management) from Greenwich University and a BSc (Hons) in Town and Regional Planning from the University of the Witwatersrand.
